Environmental Problems

Our planet’s health

Are we destroying the foundation for life?

Insect collapse

Biodiversity is being lost

Our planet’s health is threatened in many areas. One of the very severe is the loss of biodiversity due to human activities. One of the root causes to this problem is a dramatic decline of insects. This not only threatens our wildlife but our actual foundation for life.

Global studies made of researchers from two Australian universities and a Chinese university shows that the decline of insects is due to intensive farming. Their report points out that the world’s ecosystems are facing a catastrophic collapse because the Earth’s insects are being eradicated at record speed. We are about to remove everything else than us here on Earth.

The insects are essential to any food network, they disperse the vast majority of plant species, keep the soil healthy, recycle nutrients and much more. We humans cannot survive without insects. They are the foundation of our planet’s health.

We are essentially destroying the very life support systems that allow us to sustain our existence on the planet, along with all the other life on the planet.” – Brad Lister, Scientist.

The analysis shows that 40 percent of all insect species are in decline and one third are threatened. The number of species falls by 2.5 percent a year, which may mean that the insects are completely gone within a century.

The decline in the number of species is due to our constant expansion of agriculture, that the agriculture is polluting with use of pesticides and fertilizers and nally biological factors such as invasive species and climate change – in that order.

The great death of insects

Documentary film (52 min) – DW Documentary

Insects aren’t exactly likeable. But they are fundamental to life on Earth. Insects are at the beginning of the food chain on which all human beings are ultimately dependent.

Worldwide the numbers of insect are dropping and creating a rupture of the food chain. Environmentalists and scientists are extremely worried about this development.

How noise is influenzing our planet

Noise pollution

The danger of noise pollution

Another threatening problem to our planet’s health is noise pollution. Noise is an overlooked problem. Too often we accept it and try to live with it. But we have to do something about this problem because it is harming people health. WHO has ranked the danger of noise pollution as the second biggest problem behind air pollution.

The noise leads to stress which causes bad health and even death for some people. According to Martin Adams (sciencetist from the european environment agency) is the death of 16.000 people in Europe every year related to high levels of noise pollution.

Twenty percent of Europe’s population are exposed to long-term noise levels that are harmful to their health.” – Eulalia Peris, European Environment Agency’s environmental noise expert. Read more in the article: Noise pollution is a major problem, both for human health and the environment.

We can all make a difference

Saving our Planet

Saving our true nature

Our planet’s health is definitely suffering in many areas. The lack of environmental awareness have made undisturbed places with natural silence one of our most scarce resources. Visit The Silence Project and learn more about the danger of noise pollution and the importance of natural silence.

As human populations and demands for resources increase, our natural habitats are suffering. Loss or damage of natural habitats is not only among the biggest threats to wildlife but also a threat to our own health and quality of life.

The loss of genetic and species diversity caused by our destruction of natural habitats will take millions of years to correct. A stupidity our descendants will have very difficult to forgive us.

To ensure the protection of the remaning natural habitats we need to understand the fragility of our nature and the importance of its protection. A healthy natural environment is of vital importants for all eco-systems and it is our responsibility to protect it.

If we want to create a brighter future for our children we need to respect, protect, and preserve the natural world and take care of our planet’s health. Help me spreading awareness about the importance of undisturbed places with natural silence. My films emphasises the danger of noise pollution and the importance of natural silence. Share my silence films on social media and you will help a little in saving natural habitats and keeping the future for both animals and our children bright.
